Day 1 and 2; Australia trip not a vacation

Wow, it's been two years since I've blogged about my adventures.... sorry. Life's been busy.

This was an awesome trip! We did so much and I'm excited to share it with you guys.

I flew out early from Vancouver and Tasha picked me up at the LA airport. We had a few hours before Dad and Mom would fly in so we decided to take a walk on the beach.

While walking on the beach Tasha picked up some lovely tar on her feet, which was a sign of what will come.

After picking Mom and Dad up from the airport we all went to  the La Brea Tar Pits. This place was cool. It's the area where natural tar bubbles to the surface and consequently traps anything that gets in it. Thousands of years ago it trapped all kinds of Mammoths, saber tooth tigers, dire wolves. People have been excavating and rebuilding the skeletons of these animals for years. It was awesome!

The flight to Australia wasn't till the evening that is why got to go to the tar pits. With that fun field trip done we headed to the airport and jumped on a plane. Fifteen hours later we arrived in Sydney.

We landed at 6:30am so that meant we had to stay awake till the evening to get over jet lag. So that meant activity and no napping. Customs took a while and they took away the jerky I brought. Oh well.

We started the trip off right by going to the temple first. We got a personalized tour of the temple by the temple president.... must have been a slow day. But it was cool to be shown the renovations and the baptismal font and sealing rooms. It was pretty.
After the Temple, we met my cousin Ally Hansen. She is down in Australia for water polo competitions. She couldn't stay long with us but she will play all day with us tomorrow.
We all went down to the opera house to take picture and see it. We said bye to Ally and then walked over to the Court house. Which we were a little too late for, closed early.
So we walked around the Botanic gardens and the pier and even out to Mrs. Macquerie's chair. Which was the governors wife or something, she liked to go out and sit there. I thought the pier was pretty though and the view of the opera house was breathtaking.
The next thing we did to stay awake and moving is we went on a walking tour of the Rocks. This was the place where they would house the convicts or the government subsidized housing. Back in the day where the United Kingdom would send their convicts to Australia. So a lot of historic buildings.

By the end of the tour and the day really, our feet were killing us. It was a ton of walking, but we made it. And we finished off the day with a pizza that had Emu and Kangaroo meat on it.  The real Aussi experience.

One quick note before I finish this blog, Australia has a ton of interesting birds and animals. There were sounds I've never heard before and cockatoos flew freely around, it was awesome. At night, the bats were huge, like the size of a large parrot. Loved seeing all of the wildlife. I'll share more later.

Adventure is out there.
